Nestled in the southern slopes of the Saputara range of Central India, Pench National Park derives its name from the river Pench which cuts a path through the forest, while forming a boundary for Seoni and Chindhawara districts. Such is the beauty of this forest that even Rudyard Kipling replaced Pench National Park with Rajasthan as its muse location for the iconic ‘The Jungle Book’.
Pench Tiger Reserve is home to around 53 tigers and 1200 species of plants including several rare and endagered and ethni-notanically important plants. In addition to the flora, the area is also rich in wildlife, housing around 58 species of mamaals including sloth bear, chital, sambhar, nilgai, leopard, wild dogs, wolf, and leopard, to name a few.
There are around 350 species of migratory birds like Malabar Pied Hornbill, Indian Pitta, Osprey, and White Eyed Buzzard. Other fauna includes 50 species of fishes, 13 species of amphibians, 33 species of reptiles, 105 species of Butterflies, moths and large numbers of other insects.
